Ten minutes later, Gideon watched Alejandro walk out the door wearing his jeans and flannel shirt and carrying his keys. He realized he might be naive to allow a perfect stranger to take his truck, but after what he’d seen... he had faith the man would be back. After all, he was going to make him dinner.

Gideon smiled when he saw Alejandro back his truck out of the carport, waving at him in the process. Feeling oddly warm and happy, he turned and closed the door behind him. He spotted the flash drive sitting in the bowl and, his curiosity getting the better of him, picked it up.

Heading to the office, Gideon set it on his desk, then settled in behind his laptop. He worked steadily, fixing the spreadsheet and inputting the data he needed, only getting up for a cup of mint flavored black tea. Eventually, once his work was done, he returned his focus to the flash drive.

While Gideon had no desire to help out his ex-boyfriend, he couldn’t help but wonder what had caused him to travel all this way. He plugged in the drive, then opened it up. After a moment, he frowned.

“Well, shit,” Gideon muttered, frowning at the screen. “Your family is richer than I thought, but why did you give me bank files and account numbers on a flash drive?”

Just as he was really starting to delve into it—hell, Gideon always found it fascinating to see how other people spent their money—two things happened. His phone rang as did his doorbell. Rising from his seat and picking up his phone, he answered the call even as he moved toward the office door.

“Hello?”

“Hi, Gideon?”

The voice sounded vaguely familiar, but he couldn’t place it. “Yes? Who’s this?”

“This is Detective Grady Stryker. Are you missing your truck?”
